Obituary of Helene Duke Delcambre

Helene Duke Delcambre, 99, of Woodville, TX passed away Saturday, September 27, 2014. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother as well as an accomplished artist. She was loved by all who knew her and will be greatly missed. Helene was born June 19, 1915, the last child of William and Susie Hussey Duke. She married Maurice Delcambre and they raised two children. She spent most of her life as a homemaker but worked at Texaco Island in the 1930’s. Helene loved to travel. She volunteered at her church and the nursing homes in Woodville after moving here in 1979. She became a painter at the age of 65. Her art has been shown in the White House and bought by people around the world. Cooking, sewing and fast-paced family life kept her going. Helene became a resident of Dogwood Trails Manor in Woodville following a stroke in February 1997. She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Maurice Delcambre; grandson Alan Scott Cole; and great-grandson Cole Joseph Simon. Left to cherish her loving memories are her daughter Maureen Cole and husband Bud; son Herschel Delcambre and wife Sylvia; grandchildren Jade Delcambre, Kevin Cole, Belinda Simon, and Teresa Cole Carpenter; great-grandchildren Lauren Weldon; Jordan and Jaxson Delcambre; Brittney Helene Cole; Sydney Lynn and Maddi Lora Carpenter. Funeral services will be at the graveside only. The service will be held at 2:20 pm on Tuesday, September 30, 2014 at Oak Bluff Cemetery in Port Neches, Texas. Services are under the direction of Riley Funeral Home of Tyler County. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the organization of your choice.
