Obituary of Loyria "Lorese" Harris Carlisle
Loyria "Lorese" Harris Carlisle passed away August 5, 2014. She was born in Call Junction, Texas to Milton Harris and Lucy James Harris. She celebrated her birthday May 18th, but records show she was born May 26, 1915. She was raised in Kirbyville, leaving at age sixteen to go to Houston where she resided intermittently until moving to Woodville in 2011.
During her early years in Houston she frequently traveled to Illinois, staying in Chicago during WWII where she worked for a pharmaceutical company. When she wasn't traveling she worked at downtown and Heights area diners as a waitress where she met her husband, Jefferson C. Carlisle. They raised two children, Lois Elaine and James Carl. In 1958 she went to work for Weingarten, becoming a member of United Food and Commercial Workers Union, retiring from the Bellaire store in 1978.
As a member for thirty‐six years of Bellaire Central Baptist Church (formerly Richmond Plaza) she enjoyed participating in numerous activities including the Women's Missionary Union and Vacation Bible School. During retirement she continued to travel, taking cross‐country trips with her sisters. She also enjoyed entertaining, baking, reading, sewing and spending time with family.
She will be dearly missed by her sister, Lucile Wuytack of Wisconsin; daughter, Lois E. Carlisle of Houston; granddaughters, Anna Marie Cooper and husband, Richard of Woodville, Jackie D. Brown of Houston; great‐grandchildren, Chance R. Cooper, William O. Cooper and wife, Marcy, Tabatha M. Cooper, all of Colmesneil, Taylor C. Cooper of Woodville, Kristofer Sutton and Krystal Brown of Houston; great‐great‐grandchildren,
Reiss K. Cooper, Kassius J. Harrington and Remi G. Cooper; and extended family and friends.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband; son; sisters, Allie May and Pearl Harris, Lois Siou and Helen Hiltibrand; brothers, J. D., James Milton and Dameral Harris.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 8 at Bellaire Central Baptist Church, 7115 Mapleridge St., Bellaire, Tx., followed by a private family visitation Friday evening in Woodville, and graveside service at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Kirbyville Cemetery.
