Obituary of Bennie Annella Dunn

Bennie Annella Dunn was born in Camden, Texas on November 27, 1928 to Ruth Bostic Losack and Jesse Jewel Losack. She entered into eternal rest Saturday, July 13, 2019.  She was 90 years old.

Bennie was born in Camden, Texas and later moved to Baytown where she was a graduate of Robert E. Lee High School. On September 8, 1945 she married her knight in shining armor, James Dunn, who literally rode on a white horse named Baby. Bennie was a Pythian Sister as well as an Eastern Star in the Goose Creek Chapter in Baytown. She later served in the Dixie Lodge Chapter after she and James moved to Blackjack.

She was a fabulous cook and baker. She knew how to make everything taste wonderful. She enjoyed canning fruits and vegetables also. Some of her family’s favorites were her pepper sauce, watermelon rind preserves, and the all time favorite – fig preserves.

Bennie was also an excellent seamstress. She made everything from dresses for her daughters, to clothing for their dolls, curtains for the windows, and costumes for school plays. You name it – Bennie could make it.

Quilting was another hobby that she enjoyed. She, along with her mother and sisters, made numerous quilts together. Bennie was great at needlepoint and decorated lovely tablecloths, pillowcases, and shirts. She was also terrific at crocheting and made many beautiful afghans over the years for her family and friends.

Painting was her true passion. She was self taught and had a natural talent for it. She created many beautiful paintings over the years and would let friends and family pick the ones they wanted for their homes. She was very generous with the gifts that God gave her.

Don’t think this beautiful, domestic goddess was all just girly-girl. She spent a lot of time at the ranching, gardening, fishing, helping with the cattle, and driving the truck during hay baling season. She also could drive a tractor, and often did.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Ruth and Jesse; sisters, Bonnie Stipe and Robbie Lamb; and son-in-law, Richard A. Mayne III.

Bennie is survived by her loving husband of 73 years, James Hilton Dunn; daughters, Teresia Mayne of Georgia, Patty Lane and husband David of Highlands, Texas; grandsons, Jonathan Mayne and wife Heather, Christopher Mayne and wife Kaori; granddaughter, Melissa Acord and husband Brett; five great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held Friday July 19, 2019 at 11AM in the Riley Funeral Home Stateroom with Brother Edwin Findley officiating.

Services are held under the direction of Riley Funeral Home and Crematorium.
