Obituary of Claude Douglas Broom
Claude Douglas “Doug” Broom, 64, of Woodville passed away May 18, 2019.
Born August 15, 1954 in Woodville, Texas to the late Claude and Ruth Broom, he lived in Woodville all of his life. He was a retired truck driver and a United States Marin Corp veteran. Doug was one of the founding members of the Tyler County Sheriff’s Posse, a member of the Masonic Lodge of Woodville, a door greeter and grounds keeper for the Country Church in Woodville.
Doug was a cowboy thru and thru. He helped many people in Tyler County by helping work cows, mend fences, or just giving a helping hand for anyone who asked. He especially enjoyed trail riding with his family and his extended family. Anyone who crossed paths with Doug knew he was a man of his word and became a lifelong friend.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Claude Ronnie Broom.
Doug is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Deborah Boney Broom; sons, Shawn Broom of St. Petersburg, FL., Joey Broom and wife, Gloria of Kirbyville; grandchildren, Gabe Broom of Beaumont, Bryce Boom of Nederland, Lexi Simmons of Woodville, Rhea Broom of Woodville, Remington Broom of Woodville, Cody Broom of Conroe, Hayden Broom of Conroe, Kyleigh Williams of Kirbyville and Caleb Williams of Kirbyville; sister, Sandra VanPelt of Mauriceville; brother, David Broom of Spring; and numerous other family members and friends.
Funeral service will be held Thursday, May 23, 2019, at 2 pm at the Riley Funeral Home in Woodville with burial to follow at the Shady Grove Cemetery near Woodville. Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 22, 2019, from 6 pm until 9 pm at the funeral home.
