Obituary of James Glenn Best

Jack Glenn Best, 83, of Woodville, TX died Monday, June 23, 2014. He was born to John Jasper and Stella Greer Best in Port Arthur, Texas on July 22, 1930. Jack graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Port Arthur and served in the Air Force for three years near the end of the Korean War. He married Sue Pipkin in 1951 and they made their home initially in Wichita Falls, Texas. Upon honorable discharge from military service, they moved back to Port Arthur and then Nederland, Texas where he began a career as an industrial electrician for what was then known as “the Texas Company” (later Texaco) that would span some 38 years. Jack and Sue became active members of First Assembly of God in Port Arthur, then First Assembly of God in Nederland. He served in many capacities including Trustee, Deacon, and Royal Ranger Leader. Jack is survived by his wife of almost sixty-three years, Sue Best; sons Randy and Kevin Best; daughter Barbie Silkwood; brother Robert Gene Best; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Visitation is scheduled for Thursday, June 26, 2014 from 5-7 pm at the Riley Funeral Home Chapel. Services are scheduled for 10 am Friday, June 27, 2014 at the funeral home with Pastor Virginia Harrison officiating. Burial to follow at Mt. Pisgah Cemetery in Woodville.
