Obituary of Glen W Rosier

On Saturday, April 6, 2019, our precious husband and father, Glen W Rosier, went to be with the Lord.  He was 82 years old.

Glen was born on November 8, 1936 in Bryan, Texas, the youngest child of George Washington and Reatha McClain Rosier. Glen was the last of 11 children and obviously his mother’s favorite because she gave him the nick name of “Pet”.  Still today his is known by all his nieces and nephews as Uncle Pet.

In 1958 he was set up on a blind date with Mary Ann Lehman and in September of the same year they married.  Their son, Gerry Wayne, was born in December 1959.  Glynda Dian came along in March 1962, and the family mourned the loss of a still born daughter, Lisa Gayle, in May 1963.

Glen worked for the Texas Highway Patrol for a few years, which brought he and his new bride to Baytown.  After 6 years he started his career with the Baytown Police Department.  During his service to the citizens of Baytown, he did patrol, Detectives, and Crime Prevention.  One of his duties was building the firing range that is still used by our officers.  He also taught women’s fire arms classes to hundreds of women here in our city.  One of the shining moments in his career was teaching a young blind woman to shoot her pistol by tying a bell on the target.  He would pull the string and she would aim and shoot.

Glen retired from the force in 1992 and they began their move up to Tyler County, Texas.  He was so proud of the home he designed and built with his own hands on Lake Ivanhoe.  He and mom have had many wonderful years there, watching the ducks go by, taking Dian out on boat rides and piddling around with Gerry.  They are active members of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Doucette where he serves as a Deacon.

Several years were spent volunteering with the Texas Baptist Men.  He was on the Disaster Relief Team, and kept his bag packed and ready to go at a moment’s notice.  He went all over the country, digging out houses in mud slides, cleaning up fallen branches from ice storms, cutting back wood from forest fires, etc…. He LOVED this work and did it all for the service of his Lords.

Singing gave Glen such joy.  He led the singing at church for 40 years.  He didn’t give that up until just a couple of years ago.  We spent many car rides singing hymns and little country ditties that either he or one of his siblings made up.  Even at the end of his life, in the hospital, we were singing hymns in the middle of the night.

Glen was preceded in death by his parents, George Washington and Reatha Rosier; sisters, Amy Kurten, Mackie Mitchell, Naomi Duncan and Rosa Batten; brothers, Jim, David, Dick, Sam and Mike Rosier and an infant daughter, Lisa Rosier.

Glen is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 60 years, Mary Ann Lehman Rosier; two children, Gerry Rosier of Newby, Tx and Dian Rosier of Baytown, Tx;  Glen has one precious brother surviving him, Sigal Rosier and wife, Ruby of Bryan, Tx.  He is blessed with a multitude of nieces and nephews that loved him dearly and friends that are too numerous to count.  And of course, we can’t leave out his sweet Baby Girl.  He loved that dog, and she is really missing him.

A Fireman Honor Guard funeral service by the Ivanhoe Volunteer Fire Department will be held Tuesday, April 9, 2019, at 11 am at the Riley Funeral Home Chapel.  Brother Stephen McBride will be officiating.  Visitation will be held Tuesday from 10 am until the time of the service.   

A visitation will be held Tuesday, April 9, 2019, from 5 pm until 7 pm at the Navarre Funeral Home, 2444 Rollingbrook Dr., Baytown, Tx .  A Policeman Honor Guard funeral service by the Baytown Police Department will be held Wednesday, April 10, 2019, at 10 am at the Navarre Funeral Home. Brother Tommy Clements will be officiating.  Burial will follow at Cedar Crest Cemetery in Baytown, Tx.

Pallbearers will be Fred Zlomke, Jerry Zlomke, Doug Bell, Eddie Rogge, George Rosier and David Rosier.  Honorary pallbearers will be Freddie Zlomke, Sr., Gregory McBride, Wayne Guest and Humberto Arellano.
