I have been trying to locate David for many years. The last time I saw David was in Atsugi Japan (Marine Corps cold weather Training Camp on the side of Mount Fuji). I was a Marine Helicopter aircraft commander and picked up David (Unknowingly) and a dozen Marines and flew them some to downtown Tokyo, and part of them to the Atsugi Naval Air Station. After landing and shutdown at Atsugi I was exiting my CH-46 through the side door, when a giant Marine standng beside the door grabbed me and picked me up off the pavement and was yelling "Mr. Brand". I hadn't seen David since his high school grad party that was held at my house out in the country, but I recognized him immediately. The year that Daid graduated there was a couple of deadly car accidents in Beaumont involing senior boys and alcohol. I found out that most of the senior boys were planning keg party I convined the school superentendant to let me have it my place where would be no cars to leave in. The parents dropped their sons off and fed them BBQ and beer till they rolled in their sleeping bags and passed outThe parents picked them up the next morning, except for David who was missing. I sat on my front porch trying to figure where Shep and David were since it was a long walk to town, David and Shep walked out of the woods. He ended up sleeping with Shep, my German Shepard out in the woods that night. So...that night years later at Atsugi I took David to the Officers Hot Bath which was truly a wonderful experience for Daivid, and then fed him a steak at the Officers Club and put him a bus back to Mt. Fuji. I have told this story to friends of mine for decades and I wish I could found David sooner.

Dear Bev and family, I am so sorry to hear of David's passing. It has been too many years since I have seen him, but I never make a pot of grits without thinking of him and you! Hold onto your memories of his smile and laughter, they were both very memorable for me. RIP Big David
