Obituary of Murphy Wayne Martin
Murphy Wayne Martin, 49, lost the yearlong battle of cancer in his home Friday, October 26, 2018 at 6:45 pm. He was born December 8, 1968 in Beaumont, Texas to William Christopher Martin Sr. and Geraldene Davis Martin of Woodville.
On June 8, 1996 he married Angela Michelle Boggess of Fred, Texas. They have two daughters, Tabitha Brooke Martin and Shelly Nichole Martin. Murphy attended Tyler Junior College and Stephen F. Austin State University where he obtained his Master’s degree in Education. He has coached in Hardin, Woodville and over 20 years at Spurger. He enjoyed fishing hunting and the Dallas Cowboys. Murphy loved coaching and his family, which were one and the same to him. He coached longer than any other coach in Spurger. A dedication ceremony was held naming the gym, The Murphy W. Martin Gym in his honor.
Survivors include his wife, Angela; daughters, Tabitha and Shelly; mother, Geraldene Davis Martin; brother, William C. Martin, Jr.; sister, April Martin as well as many nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his best friend, Joe Fisher, over 2 years ago and his dad, William Christopher Martin, Sr. of Woodville 17 months earlier who both loss the battle of cancer. His uncle Rex Davis, Uncle Joe Martin, cousin, Joey Martin and his grandparents also preceded him in death.
Funeral service will be held Monday, October 29, 2018, at 4 pm at the First Baptist Church in Spurger, Tx with Brother Cole Clark and Brother Scott Briggs officiating. Burial will follow at the Franks Branch Community Cemetery in Fred, Tx. Visitation will be held Monday from 2 pm until the time of the service at the church.
Serving as pallbearers will be Specialist Ross Martin, Hunter Jenkins, Colton Jenkins, Randy Rose, Steven Davis, Raymond Nowack, Eddie Jenkins and Linn Ellis. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Phil Boggess and Johnny Davis.
