Obituary of Varney Lindsey "VL" Durham, Sr.

Varney Lindsey (VL) Durham Sr, 85, of Woodville passed away Sunday, May 13, 2018.

Born March 26, 1933 to the late C.H. (Bully) Durham and Mary Page Durham, he was a life long residence of Woodville.

VL, as the owner of Durham Saw Company and multiple other businesses, retired and enjoyed a full life on their farm.

He was a loving and devoted husband for 64 years to Esther Ruth Durham.  He loved God and was a devoted father, grandfather, brother and friend to all who knew and loved him.

A minister, who lived what he preached, a great mentor and role model to many.  VL was also an avid coon hunter for many years winning many trophies with his favorite coon dog, JD.

VL was preceded in death by his parents, brother Jackie Durham and sister Louise Barnes.

He is survived by his wife, Esther Ruth Durham; daughters, Vetta Ogden (Gene) of Springfield, MO and Esther Maddox of Woodville; sons Dewayne Durham (Debi) of Corrigan and Varney Durham Jr of Woodville; sister Rose Mary Durham of Woodville, brothers Y.G. (George) Durham of Virginia, Elijah Durham of Center, A.T. Durham (Faith) of Woodville, fourteen grandchildren and twenty-three great grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held at The Church of Jasper, Wednesday, May 16, 2018, at 1pm with Brother Steve Baker & Brother Jim Maddox officiating.  Visitation will be held from 11am until time of service.  Burial will be held at Bethany cemetery following lunch provided by The Church of Jasper, 3023 Highway 63 W, Jasper, Texas.

Serving as pallbearers are Matt Maddox, Dustin Durham, Matt Miller, Zach Baker, Bob Dannar, Joe Dannar, Eli Mitcham and Justin Staples.
