Obituary of Bessie Myrtice Clamon
Bessie Myrtice Clamon, 98, of Chester passed away December 27, 2017.
Born on October 31, 191 in Barnum, Texas on what is now known as Barnum Blvd, she grew up on a farm on Pine Grove Hill and attended schools in both communities. Later she was able to ride by bus to the new highway to Corrigan High School and the next year to Chester High School, where she was part of Chester’s first graduating class.
She met rancher, Roy Clamon from the Hortense Community, and on January 9, 1937, they married and for the first 13 years, they lived on their ranch raising a family. In 1950 they moved to their new farm in Cheater and to their new church, Chester Baptist. They had been married 53 years when he died in 1990. She continued to raise a vegetable garden and even when her sight and hearing faded she continued to enjoy nature by sitting by a warm window, watching birds and other wildlife.
Bessie was preceded in death by husband of 53 years Roy Clamon; parents; brothers, Arvil Hughes and S.L. Futch Jr.; daughter, Lynell Clamon; son, Don Clamon.
She is survived by daughters, Janice Whitworth and husband, John of Chester and Sheryl Mitcham and husband Gary of Chester; sons, Lynn Clamon and wife Wanda of Livingston and Dale Clamon and wife, Susan of Chester; grandchildren, Wes and Connie Whitworth of Chester, Ron and Kristin Whitworth of Conroe, Roger and Melanie Whitworth of Chester, Justin and Heath Mitcham of Colmesneil, Elisha and Bo Bell of Bridge City, Shana and Patrick Dickens of Livingston, Raegon and Julie Clamon of Castroville, Heather and Mike McNeely of Nacogdoches, Max and Shelly Clamon of Woodville; great grandchildren, Daniel, Jessica, Sarah Tanner, Alyssa, Kayla, Elijah, Elizabeth, Christian, Sidney, Judah, Ridge, John Tyler, Ryder, Macie, Alicyn, Brooke, J. W., Mitch, Blake, Shelbey, Seth, Luke, Molly, Micah, Matthew and Marcus; great grandchildren, Leon, Asa and Noah; and a host of other family members and friends.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, December 30, 2017, at 12 noon at the First Baptist Church in Chester with Brother Hails Taylor officiating. Visitation will be held Saturday from 10 am until the time of the service at the church. Burial will follow at Feagin Cemetery in Polk County, Tx.
Serving as pallbearers will be Raegon Whitworth, Ron Whitworth, Mac Clamon, Roger Whitworth, Justin Mitcham and Wes Whitworth.
