Obituary of James B Best
~~A memorial service for James B. Best, age 92, will be held on Saturday, July 22, 2017 at 12:00 p.m. at the Woodville United Methodist Church with Rev. Amanda Davis officiating. Mr. Best passed away on Friday, July 14, 2017 in The Woodlands, TX. He was married to his wife, Nancy S. Best, for 54 years, and he was the son of Julius B. and Alma McKee Best of Woodville.
Mr. Best grew up in Woodville, TX and graduated from Kirby High School in 1942. He graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in 1949. Mr. Best was co-owner of J.B. Best & Co. in Woodville and worked for over 40 years in this business serving the Tyler County area. He was a lifelong member of the Woodville United Methodist Church. As a youth, he achieved the rank of Eagle Scout and enjoyed serving as a camp counselor at summer church camps. As an adult in the sixties, he served as chairman of the church’s Administrative Board and taught a young couples Sunday School class.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Julius B. and Alma McKee Best; his sister, Wilma Douglas Best Kenesson and brother-in-law, Jay Huntley Kenesson, Jr. He is survived by his wife, Nancy S. Best; son, Jim Best and wife, Katrina; daughter, Mary Elizabeth Brown and husband, John; grandchildren, Brittany Kay Best, Blake Best, Jessica Faith Brown, Julianna Grace Brown; and many other close relatives.
A private graveside service will be held at Magnolia Cemetery in Woodville prior to the service under the direction of Riley Funeral Home. Memorials in Mr. Best’s honor may be given to the Woodville United Methodist Church, 508 W. Bluff St., Woodville, TX 75979.
