Obituary of Jerry Millard Rains

~~Jerry Millard Rains, 77, of Woodville, Passed away Tuesday June 27, 2017 in Beaumont surrounded by his family. Jerry was born January 19, 1940 in Hemphill, Texas to Arnold and Lucille Rains.
Jerry graduated from Kirby High School in 1958. In 1961, he met the love of his life Sherrie Welch and they were married June 22, 1963. Jerry and Sherrie moved to Dallas where he was employed by Morgan Bldgs for 10 years. They then moved back to Woodville in 1973 and started their own business Coastal Portable Bldg Co. where they worked side by side for 20 years. Jerry was a simple man of few words, but he was also a very smart and successful businessman. This allowed him the privilege of retiring at the age of 50. In 1985 Jerry was ordained as a deacon. He was a member of Campground Baptist Church.
Jerry loved sitting on his back porch watching the deer graze on the 20 acres that he manicured daily. He enjoyed and spent many hours on his mower and took great pride in keeping his place immaculate. He also loved to hunt and fish with his longtime buddies. He was a loving husband, father, Papaw, friend and mentor to many. His love and words of wisdom will live on forever in the hearts of those that were fortunate enough to have known him.
Mr. Rains is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Sherrie Rains of Woodville; daughter, Lisa Cope and husband Jerome of Lumberton; Grandchildren, Amber Mitcham Bagwell and husband TJ (JW) of Splendora, Jerry Allen Mitcham and wife Allison of Nederland, Maegan Celestine of Lumberton and Morgan Celestine of Lumberton; Great-Gradnchildren, Wyatt Bagwell, Levi Bagwell, Kimberly Bagwell and Sawyer Mitcham; sisters, Dorothy Comte and husband Delbert of Huntington and Penny Rains of Fort Worth.
Jerry is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Kimberly Rains Delp; sister, Billie Adams; brothers, Buster Rains and Arnold D. Rains.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10am, Saturday, July 1, 2017 at Riley Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Friday, June 30, 2017 from 5pm until 8pm. Burial will follow at Magnolia Cemetery. Officiating the service will be Brother Larry Trest and Brother Kevin McCluskey.
