Obituary of Russell Mitchell Melancon, Sr.

Russell Mitchell Melancon, Sr, 83, of Spurger passed away March 27, 2013 at his residence. Born December 14, 1930 in Port Arthur, Texas to Mitchell and Rena Magnon Melancon, he lived in the Mid County area before retiring to Spurger many years ago. He was retired as a heavy equipment operator in the Mid County area. Russell was an Army and Marine Veteran. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to all who knew and loved him. Russell is survived by his sister, Barbara Ann Rutherford; children, Russell Melancon, Jr, Kim Melancon, Gayla Melancon, L. J. Broussard, Bridget Werner, and Leonia Fruge; eleven grandchildren, two great grandchildren and numerous other family members and friends. A grave side service will be held Tuesday, April 1, 2014, at 11:30 a.m. at the Beech Creek Cemetery in Spurger, Texas with Father Michael Strother officiating. Visitation will be held Monday evening at the funeral home.
