Obituary of Paul Newlin Miller
Paul Newlin Miller, 94, of Baytown, Texas and formerly of Woodville, went to be with the Lord Thursday, October 13, 2016, while walking his dog. He was born March 26, 1922 in Callao, Missouri and spent his youth in rural Missouri. He attended college in Kansas City and much later at Texas A & M, but his most enjoyable education was RAF flying school in Terrell, Texas. He enlisted in the Army Air Corp in 1942 and spent many years flying mostly cargo planes all over the world. He served 8 years of active duty and many more in the Air Force Reserves, from which he retired as a Lt. Colonel in 1982. His best stories were of “flying the hump” from India to China, and he met and married Clellion Marshall, an Army nurse, in 1948 while he was stationed in San Antonio.
After active duty, Paul had jobs flying for Trans Texas Airways and Stanolind Oil Company and was in sales for National Cash Register, Equitable Insurance, Snap-on Tools and Mac Tools among others. He moved to Woodville when he retired as Street and Bridge Superintendent for the city of Beaumont. He was active many years in Woodville VFW, Gideons, prison ministry and Lions and at church at Campground Baptist and First Baptist Doucette in Tyler County.
Paul was preceded in death by his wife Clellion Marshall Miller (Bill) and his sister Betty Lou Haynie. He is survived by his wife of 11 years, Sandy Miller, of Woodville; by his 4 children and their spouses - Donna and Mike McGill of Baytown, Mike and Cha Miller of Baytown, Wanda Henry of Manchaca, and Randy and Robin Miller of Hewitt, Texas; by 12 grandchildren and their spouses - Matt and Kelly Herrington of San Marcos, California; Megan McGill of Baytown, Eric and Lorie Henry of Kyle, Chris and Jessica Henry of Buda, Shannon and Brandon Lafayette of Dripping Springs, Michael Paul and Allie Henry of Austin, Carly Miller of Austin, Rachel and Adam Bueno of San Marcos, Garrett Miller of Austin; Christina Miller of Boston, Cynthia Miller of Austin and Josh and Jackie Miller of Killeen. Paul’s 14 great-grandchildren are Ian, Austin, Tyler and Kyle Herrington; Kelsey Henry; Nathaniel, Ethan, Grayson, and Seth Henry and Zane Spruill; Micah and Autumn Lafayette, Rosie Henry and Gabriel Miller.
Paul’s family will receive friends Monday evening from 5:00 until 7:30 PM at Riley Funeral Home in Woodville. Funeral services will be Tuesday, October 18, 2016, at 1 PM at Riley Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Bethany Cemetery in Colmesneil. In lieu of remembrances, donations may be made to the Woodville chapter of The Gideons International.
