Obituary of Linda Jane Means
Linda Jane Means, 64, of Spurger, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 5, 2014, at Oakwood Manor Nursing Home in Vidor. Visitation was Friday evening at Riley Funeral Home in Woodville. A graveside service was held Saturday, February 8, 2014, at 10 am, at Turner Branch Cemetery in Spurger with Brother Paul Boughan officiating. Services were held under the direction of Riley Funeral Home of Tyler County.
Born on September 29, 1949, in Fort Sill, OK, to Elray and Annie McGallion Alexander, she made her home in Spurger for more than 40 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Pat Means; and a sister, Gayle Lisenby.
She is survived by herloving sons, Bubba Means and his wife Amanda, and Steven Means and his wife Crystal, all of Spurger; brothers, Buster Alexander of Livingston, Wade Yandell of Town Bluff, and Terry Yandell of Beaumont; sister, Kay Means and her husband Neil, of Spurger; and six grandchildren, Bryttne’ Means, Colton Means, Capri Ford, Rainey Ford, Lane Means, and Fenton Means, all of Spurger. Linda is also survived by longtime companion Hugh Adams, and very special friend JoAnn Walston, both of Spurger; and a host of other family members and friends.
After settling down in Spurger, Linda was manager of the Woodville Inn for many years. She then went on to work for Tyler County Water, and eventually retired from Strozier Railcar. She loved the outdoors, and spent much of her free time either gardening or fishing. But more than anything, Linda loved her family. She prepared regular Sunday family dinners just so the family could spend time together.She was a loving wife, mother, granny, aunt, sister, and friend. Linda was truly the backbone of her family, serving as the matriarch, and nobody made an important decision without her prior approval.She had a special charm about her, and anyone who ever met her had the chance to experience it. Linda will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and community.
