Archie grew up in Port Arthur and Groves. He attended Port Neches-Groves High School and went to Lamar University. He made his home, raised a family, and lived in Nederland, Texas until he retired.
Archie was a journeyman welder for Pipeliners Local Union 798 for many years which included welding on the Alaskan Pipeline. He then moved into the marine repair business, eventually founding his own company, B & A Marine Services in Port Arthur. Prior to pipelining, he had worked at Gulfport Shipyard and with the success of B & A Marine he acquired the facility and renamed it Westport Shipyard. He then also started a land based construction company known as B & A Construction. Always enjoying big trucks, he later added a trucking business, Scott Eastern Express.
Upon retirement, he headed up to the country outside of Woodville, where he raised cattle, made hay, and enjoyed many other farming and equipment interests. He enjoyed horses from the time he was a child and of course his ranch always included several. He also raised and trained border collies for a while.
Archie was a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He loved living on his ranch and enjoyed hosting barbeques and crawfish boils for family and friends. His grandchildren and other children in the family loved spending summers with him “in the country.”
